Freeport LNG’s commitment to environmental stewardship had begun as the company initiated site selection, engineering and permitting of the terminal project. From enhancement and preservation of existing wetlands and creation of new wetland areas to recycling and using dredged soils as structural materials on-site, Freeport LNG employees have incorporated sound environmental principles into their daily practices. This commitment has become a hallmark of the project as it went into operations. And Freeport LNG’s efforts have been noticed and appreciated. In April 2010, Freeport LNG was honored by Keep Texas Beautiful, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve community environment. Freeport LNG was awarded the Ebby Halliday and Maurice Acres Bussiness/Industry Award, which is given to industrial companies with sound environmental principles, for its expanded environmental stewardship and community involvement activities during 2009.
